Rumor Reese is a social media drag queen trying to get her name out there. She releases content constantly, music, and short stories but can’t break 5,000 followers.
One night while walking home after losing a huge drag competition, Rumor is attacked by a group of bigots and left for dead. She awakens in the hospital and is told she was clinically “dead” for almost 2 minutes before being resuscitated. As she’s discharged she’s given a pair of sunglasses with her belongings that aren’t hers, but she keeps them anyway.
She begins wearing the sunglasses in her videos and becomes a sensation. She even catches the attention of one of the most powerful agents in the entertainment industry who immediately signs Rumor on the condition she completely reinvents herself; including her name. She becomes Gossip Pieces and leaves Rumor behind.
Over the course of one year Gossip Pieces becomes the most successful drag queen in entertainment. She’s the star of a hit horror film, has the number 1 album on the billboard, and even has a television pilot greenlit. She becomes a different person, darker, more demanding… her original “fans” beg for Rumor to come back and her to return to her roots. Gossip hates when people mention Rumor and often says she was a “nobody”.
As the anniversary of her near-death experience approaches Gossip begins to have unexplainable experiences, she often sees someone in her peripheral vision who looks like her, but not her, as soon as she tries to focus on the figure they’re gone. She has nightmares of people being murdered, she sees things that aren’t there, and begins having supernatural experiences. It seems the more successful she becomes the more intense the experiences become. Is the stress of fame too much for her? Or are there more sinister forces behind it all?
